The Lodge today

Thirty-eight members, eight meetings, one evening a month.

Cae Glas is deliberately a small Lodge. Everyone knows everyone, every member has a job to do, and a new man is not left to find his own way. This page is what we are now; our history is how we got here.

Where we meet

Freemason's Hall on Roft Street has been our home since the beginning. It is one of only two purpose-built Masonic halls in Shropshire, and we are one of three lodges that meet there — which is why the building is busy most evenings and why the car park matters.

The Lodge room itself is on the first floor. There is a stair lift; tell the Secretary beforehand if you need it and someone will meet you at the door.

What happens at a meeting

The Lodge opens at 6.15. There is business — minutes, correspondence, the Treasurer — and then usually a ceremony: an Initiation, a Passing or a Raising, each a piece of ritual theatre performed from memory by members who have spent weeks rehearsing it.

Afterwards everyone eats together at the Festive Board: two courses, a few toasts, and the real business of the evening, which is the company.
